The Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem since 1988, will be visiting and sharing his vision of creating Diyar, a consortium of Lutheran-based institutions. These institutions serve the whole Palestinian community through culture (International Center of Bethlehem), health (Dar al Kalima Health and Wellness Center) and education (Dar al Kalima University College).
Dr. Raheb was the recipient of the prestigious international award “Deutscher Medienpreis” in Germany for his tireless work in creating room for hope for his Palestinian people who live under occupation. He is also recognized for his strong advocacy and stance on Palestinian culture and dialogue for civil society and religion. His latest book Faith in the Face of Empire: The Bible through Palestinian Eyes has landed on best selling lists for books on the region.
He is in Lancaster for this event sponsored by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; he will be delivering the commencement address at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia on the following Tuesday.
Dr. Raheb holds a PhD in Theology from the Philipps University at Marburg, Germany, is married and has two daughters.
