A group of 16, including nine Canadians and seven US citizens visited the Islamic Republic of Iran from November 18 to December 3, 2016. The tour was organized by the International Institute of Islamic Studies (IIIS) in Qom, Iran. The delegation met Islamic religious leaders and scholars as well as Christian and Jewish leaders. The group also met officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian Red Crescent Society. An emphasis, in addition to learning about Shia Islam, included historical and cultural sites in Iran.
The leaders of the tour were Professor Harry Huebner of Canadian Mennonite University and Dr. Ed Martin, former Central and Southern Asia program director of Mennonite Central Committee and director of Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Interfaith Engagement. Martin is the leading LIPW voice on Iran, and will lead the Feb. 4, Forum. all are welcome.
