To our neighbors at the Islamic Community Center, Lancaster:
At a time when the ugly voices of Islamophobia are being hear, and politicians appeal to the worst fears and prejudices of their constituencies, we take this opportunity to let you know that we, the membership of the Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, stand in solidarity with you. Racism, discrimination, hatred of Muslims and Islam are attacks against all of us.
This position we take as citizens who believe in equality and freedom of religion, but it is also a position we take as Christians and believers. We cannot be silent in the face of blatant bigotry and claim to be faithful to our own religion. We are instructed to love our neighbors as ourselves. This love is not an abstract general statement but a genuine belief that we must translate into actions, particularly in times like these. We are proud to stand with you, our Muslim brothers and sisters, and affirm your right to dignity, humanity, and equality before all.
