Elizabethtown College will welcome Matthew Southworth as the College’s 2012 Alumni Peace Fellow, for a three-day residence October 30 – November 1. In addition to smaller meetings with Elizabethtown’s faculty, staff, students and alumni, Mr. Southworth will participate in one event that is open to the public and free of charge. At 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 1 in the Bucher Meeting House of the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, Mr. Southworth will present a lecture on the theme, “A More Peaceful Future: Making Change in an Election Year”.
Mr. Southworth works as a Legislative Associate for the Friends Committee on National Legislation, and currently works on Afghanistan policy. In 2004, he served a tour of duty in Iraq, an experience that turned him into an anti-war activist. In addition to his day job, Mr. Southworth serves on the Board of Directors for Veterans for Peace and is the Washington, DC Chapter President of Iraq Veterans Against the War.
