Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness (LIPW) was one of the recipients of the 2014 Torch of Global Enlightenment Award, an annual award given by the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, a chapter of the national organization, the World Affairs Council of America The award was accepted on May 15 during a dinner at Penn State Hershey School of Medicine Conference Center. In collaboration with the Penn State College of Medicine Office of Diversity the Council commended five individuals and six organizations for promoting values of inclusiveness, diversity and multiculturalism. The Harrisburg Council was formed in 2010 with “a mission to educate and engage the Central Pennsylvania region on global issues through meeting and interacting with leading international intellectuals, writers and diplomats.” Through the encouragement provided by the Award’s recognition the participating organizations have achieved greater mutuality of purpose. Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, in turn, extends good will toward all those so honored. Dr. Gene Clemens, member of the LIPW Board was present at the dinner and received the award. Clemens is a retired professor of religious studies at Elizabethtown College. Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness is a grassroots association dedicated to promoting biblical values of justice, care of creation, peace and nonviolent solutions to conflict. LIPW engages in education and public advocacy for a secure, sustainable and just world for all.
